Mawangdui Tombs of Han Dynasty and Unearthed Cultural Relics
Located at the
east outskirts of Changsha, the family Tombs were the former Prime
Minister of Changsha State of West Han Dynasty.
There are totally 3 tombs at Mawangdui. In the No.1 tomb is a female
corpse, which is 2100 years old. The body is complete and sleek. Some of
the Joints of the body could even be moved and soft tissues are flexile,
resembling the fresh body. There are large amount of silks and other
textiles. In the No.2 tomb, there are large quantities of colored
figurines, ceramics, and most important, a map that is nearly as the same
as a modern one with high drawing techniques. In the No.3 tomb, there are
a lot of silk books of 28 kinds, totaling 100 thousand words. Contents of
these books involve ancient philosophy, history, science and technology,
contributing to the study about the ancient times.
Totally over 3000 items of cultural relics were unearthed at Mawangdui,
including silk books, silk paintings, bamboo tablets, textiles, wooded
figurines, ceramics, agricultural products and medical herbs. The
unearthed female corpse and lots of the Cultural Relics are now on
exhibition at Hunan Provincial Museum.
