The Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base
The Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base was built to imitate the wild
ecological environment of pandas. It covers a space of 560 mu, with a green
coverage of 96 percent. The base created a perfect ecological environment for
the living and breeding of pandas and other precious and rare wild animals. It
breeds over 20 pandas and lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white cranes and
others.It is a panda breeding scientific research institute built in accordance with international standards for the purpose of rescuing the endangered wild animal, i.e. the panda. It includes a scientific research building, an open research laboratory, an animal hospital, an animal house, a panda playground, a swan lake, a panda museum, and a comprehensive service department. Here, green bamboo and trees, birds, and flowers combined with man-made sights constitute the living and breeding place for pandas and other rare animals. Till 1998, the base had bred 32 pandas, giving birth to 48 baby pandas, of which 28 lived, and accomplished scientific research in over 50 related subjects, winning more than 30 awards. The base has won the UN Environmental Program's award of the "global 500 best", and the gold award of green science and technology of China, an excellent national project of environment control, 100 advanced units of green plantation of Sichuan Province, and the title of model base of popular science education of Sichuan Province. To achieve the aim of protecting and expanding the wild species of panda and finally returning them to their natural habitat, the base imitated the wild ecological environment of pandas in its second and third stages of construction. Wonder of Nature-Taizi Town (The Town of Prince)
Like an ancient castle, the Pengzhou Taizi Town is located on
Feilai peak of the Longmen mountains, 4,770 meters above sea level. It is the
remains of the geographical movement of Longmen Mountains, and is of great value
to geographical scientific surveys and mountaineering.Mountain Lake-Ganlong Lake
Located in the north of Pengzhou under Chengdu city, Ganlong
Lake is 4,500 meters above sea level. It is an ancient glacier lake on Longmen
Mountains. Here, visitors could appreciate the remains of ancient glaciers,
stone desert on high mountains, and a sea of cloud. It is of precious value for
scientific research, mountaineering, expeditions and tourismAnzihe Panda Natural Reserve
Anzihe Panda Natural Reserve is located in the northwest of
Chongzhou city, 98 km from Chengdu city. It is a forest and wild animal nature
reserve involved mainly in the protection of wild pandas and rare wild animals
and their ecological environment. It is connected with Wolong, Baoxing
Fengtongzhai and Tianquan Labahe natural reserves to constitute the Qionglai
Mountains panda protection network, to effectively protect the exchanges of
panda groups and their stable life and expansion.
Yincang Valley The valley is located in the north of Pengzhou, extending over 30km. It forms the main part of the Longmen Mountains scenic spot. Here, the valley is deep and winding, with waterfalls pouring down and strange rocks standing. Plank roads were built along the face of the cliff.Ice on Masong Mountain In
the 2,200-meter-high mountains in the north of Pengzhou, visitors can see
stretches of various-shaped ice in winter. The ice scenes on Masong Mountains
include ice pagoda, ice pillar, ice bamboo shoot, ice curtains and ice balls.Chengdu Square
Located in the center of Chengdu City, the Square is a major green project of
the municipal government for improving the urban environment. A little garden
has been built in the middle. Reflected by surrounding buildings, it looks
magnificent.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage
Located beside the Huanhua stream in west suburbs of Chengdu, it is the former
residence of the well-known poet Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), who came
to live here to escape war. The cottage covers an area of 244mu, and the temple,
in the style of Qing Dynasty architecture, has been well preserved. It includes
the exhibition hall and the re-built Du Fu Thatched House. In 1961, it was
listed by the State Council to be a key historical site under state protection.
Ming Tombs of Princes of the Shu Prefecture
The Ming Tombs are located five km away from the Shiling Town of Longquanyi
District. Centered on the tomb of Prince Xi, it consists of over 10 tombs of
princes of the Shu Prefecture and their concubines, similar to the Ming Tombs in
Beijing, and has now been listed as a key historical site under state
protection. The tomb of Prince Xi is a large, luxuriantly decorated underground
tomb.
The Long March Museum
Qionglai is the only place in Chengdu that the Red Army passed through to
continue the Long March and establish the revolutionary government. The Long
March Museum has become a base for patriotic education in Chengdu, it includes
an exhibition hall, a group sculpture of the Red Army during the Long March, the
site of the Soviet government and stone pavilion with inscribed slogan on, and a
square where the flag is raised.
The Liu Garden-The Old Mansion
It was built in early 20th century, covering a total area of over 70,000 square
meters. The mansion has been listed as a key relic under state protection. The
mansion combined the foreign vertical pillar-like architecture style with
traditional decorative designs, and formed unique characteristics. It is located
in the west suburbs, 52km from downtown Chengdu, reflected in green trees and
bamboo. Here, pieces of farm land and navigation canals crisscross and farm
houses scatter. The mansion is divided into two parts, the southern part is
commonly called the Old Mansion and the northern part is called the New Mansion,
linked by a 320-meter long corridor. The Old Mansion was built in a winding and
complicated pattern, which demonstrated the land expansion of the Liu family;
while the New Mansion was regularly arranged in a symmetrical pattern, which
clearly divided the noble and the humble.Along with the well-preserved mansions, a large number of historical records and nearly a thousand relics and 10 thousand other items are exhibited. They provide material for studying the economy and society of the old semi-feudal and semi-colonial China, and the history of Sichuan warlords and folklore. The clay sculpture "the courtyard of renting-fee collection" forms one of the 10 artistic achievements in contemporary China with delicate patterns and vivid creations of clay figurines. Funan River
Chengdu is a famous city with a long cultural history in China, and the Funan
River is the mother river of the city. The Funan River control and green
plantation project provides a green ring in the city center. In 1998, the
project was given the "UN Human Residence Award".
Chengdu Yongling Ground Tomb
It is the tomb of the first Emperor Wang Jian (847-918) of the former Shu State
during the Five Dynasties. It has now been listed as a key historical site under
state protection. The tomb, 80 meters in diameter and 15 meters in height, is
the largest ground tomb ever discovered in China.Dujiang Dam
During the Warring States Period in 256BC, the governor of the Shu Prefecture Li
Bing and his son led the people to build the large water conservancy works to
control flooding on the Chengdu plains. Up to now, 2,250 years have passed, and
the works still play a significant role in agriculture on the Chengdu plains. It
is a historical wonder of science and technology.
Wenjun Garden
Located in Qionglai city, it was built in the style of the Suzhou and Hangzhou
gardens. legend has it that it was the place where the talented Sima Xiangru and
Zhuo Wenjun of the Han Dynasty (206BC-220) played guqin (a seven-stringed
plucked instrument in some ways similar to the zither) and opened wine shops. It
has now been listed as a key historical site under provincial protection. The
garden is delicately built, quiet and elegant.
The Qiubaolu Memorial
The memorial was erected in the People's Park of Chengdu city, in memory of the
martyrs who died during the 1912 Democratic Movement. The brick memorial is 31
meters high and square shaped.
Zhuge Liang's Memorial Hall
The Hall was built in memory of the Prime Minister Zhuge Liang of the Shu State
during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280). It was originally built in the
Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589). In 1961, it was listed as a key
historical site under state protection. The temple covers an area of 37,000
square meters, and includes Liu Bei Hall, Zhuge Liang Hall, Gallery of Ministers
and Marshals, and the relics of tablets, horizontal inscribed boards and
antithetical couplets, bells and drums, and tripods for burning incense.Murals of the Temple of Bodhisattva of Compassion
The temple consists of 108 halls, and is famous both at home and abroad for the
murals and sculptures of the Ming Dynasty which are of high artistic value.
Murals on the left and right walls inside the First Dhyane Buddha Hall cover a
space of 94 square meters, on which were painted the 12 Bodhisattvas, 24
deities, and 13 offering alms-givers. The beautiful designs and fine lines of
the sculptures are of high historical and artistic research value.Wangcong Temple
It is located in the southwest suburbs of Pixian County, formed by the combined
memorial halls of Emperors Duyu and Bieling of the ancient Shu State. It has a
history of over 1,500 years, and has now been listed as a key historical site
under state protection. With renovations during the various dynasties, the hall
expanded from the original coverage of 20mu to over 80mu. Inside the hall are 12
pavilions and 17 man-made lakes.
Huilan Pagoda The pagoda, built in the Qing Dynasty, is a key relic under provincial protection and is located on the shoal amidst the Nanhe River. It is 75.48 meters high, the third highest in the country. Climbing to the top, one can enjoy a bird's-eye-view of Linqiong city. The pagoda compliments the natural mountains and rivers, and provides excellent material for ancient pagoda research in China.
